3D nonlinear seismic analysis and design of base-isolated buildings under near field ground motions

The structural performance of base-isolated buildings during past earthquakes confirmed the suitability Lead Rubber Bearing (LRB) isolators. To assess effectiveness such isolators, 3D base-fixed and associated models a multi-story building are performed for three components recorded at each stations with closest distances to seismic fault approximately 5.54, 11.39, 17.82 km 6.7 Mw Northridge earthquake in 1994. In this study, we discuss important issues regarding analysis design under near-field ground motions both Design Basis Earthquake (DBE) Maximum Capable (MCE) levels. results demonstrate that although shear strain stability conditions fulfilled, it is crucial satisfy rollout condition requirements because large isolator displacement MCE level while utilising supplemental viscous dampers improve desired efficiency isolation.
